Walls and Gardens

The old medieval walls and their 17th and 18th century additions have been turned into pleasant gardens and walkways.

The Virgen de la O square, where Hotel Eslava stands, is a magnificent balcony from which you can see the old (and now renovated) districts of Rochapea, Chantrea and San Jorge, with San Cristobal/Ezkaba mountain in the background.

Now that lifts have been built into the walls, running down to the level of the River Arga, it takes just a couple of minutes to get to the River Path which follows the Arga as it crosses Pamplona and the whole district.

The Taconera Gardens, built into the ramparts and moats, have been turned into a mini-zoo to the delight of young and old, housing all types of birds, deer and other animals.

A little further away there is the Citadel, an amazing fortification from the 17th century, converted into a cultural and leisure space.

Arts & Culture

Just five minutes walk away there is also the Baluarte Congress Hall and Auditorium, where many congresses and events are held in addition to plays, dance shows, concerts, etc.

Even closer there is the Agustinas Recoletas Convent, which boasts a Rococo altarpiece and has been declared National Heritage and the Church of San Lorenzo housing the Chapel for San Fermín, joint patron saint of Navarre and the character behind the famous San Fermin festival, held in his honour every July in Pamplona.

Festival locations

In just five minutes you can find yourself in the centre of the Town Hall Square where the “Chupinazo” is set off every 6th July to mark the start of the San Fermin festival and where the "Pobre de mí" also takes place indicating the end of the festival.

Bulls run through this square every morning during the festival coming up the Santo Domingo Hill and following the streets of Mercaderes and Estafeta.
A little further on there is the Plaza del Castillo, the neuralgic centre of the Festival and also referred to as their “living room” by locals.

During the festival don’t miss the San Fermín Procession on 7th July or the Giant and Cabezudo Parade through the streets of the old town every day.

The St James' Way

St James’ pilgrims reach Pamplona from Roncesvalles and cross the city heading towards Puente la Reina and Estella. Their route comes down Calle Mayor in Pamplona, just 40 m from the hotel.
